Janet
Zambai is a Wyoming native, born in Rock Springs; she has resided in Casper
since the age of five. She has been working with stained
glass for over twenty years. In that time, she has created pieces
that are in private collections throughout the United States, and several
countries around the world. Janet is mostly self-taught. She learned
the basic techniques, and then incorporated them with her ideas into her
own designs. She has studied with Kathy Bradford, Virginia Gabaldo, Gary
Vigen & Gil Reynolds in the glass industry. In 1997 she started taking
one class a semester at Casper College, as she hadnt had any formal
Art Training, or the opportunity to attend college at an earlier
age. Janet runs a full production art glass studio. She combines
a variety of techniques into her work. These include traditional stained
glass, sandblasting, painting, and fusing. She uses these techniques to
create works using copper foil, brass, copper, and traditional lead came.
She can make about anything in glass, any size or shape. |

In addition to cabinet insets, Janet creates residential, commercial and liturgical commissions. Some of the commercial clients she has created work for are, The Historic Plains Hotel, Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she created a 12 x 18 skylight above the lobby, 4-Aces restaurant in Glenrock; Eastgate Travel Plaza, McMurry Energy, Silver Fox Lounge, and Memorial Chapel, all in Casper; and Amorettis restaurant, Lander, Wyoming. Some of the churches are, 7th Day Adventists, Wheatland, Wyo. ; First Baptist, Cheyenne, WYo.; Our Lady of the Sage Catholic chruch, Baggs, WY; Christ the King Lutheran, Cody, Wyo.; St. Stevens and St. Marks Episcopal Churches, Casper; Mount Hope Lutheran, Casper; and Bethel Lutheran Church in Lander, Wyo. Businesses, in clude Rocky Mountain Oncology, Coliseum Motore, Big Wyoming,, Karl Kilmer, Accountant, Phil Schmidt, 2nd Street Realtors, American National Bank, All of Casper, University of Wyoming in Laramie, Jonah Bank, Wyo. Cardiopulmonary, J CAT Custom Glass Studio was opened as a retail store in the early 1990s where supplies were sold, and classes taught in Casper for about five years. Currently Janet runs her private studio from behind her home, producing custom commission work. She currently has one apprentice, and a couple of other glass craftsmen who help with the fabrication of her work. She has also judged the Glass At the Gardens in Cheyenne, WY, Sheridan WY, and Denver. She was Artist in Residence July 2003, & 2004 at the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper. Her work is currently represented at the World West Galleries in Pennsylvania & World Art Gallery in LaDera Ranch, California.. |
